BIOGRAPHY AND PERSONALITY OF A FAMOUS LEO: WILT CHAMBERLAIN

Basketball player. Born Wilton Norman Chamberlain on August 21, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A student at Kansas University, he played for the Harlem Globetrotters (1958) before joining the National Basketball Association's  Philadelphia Warriors (1959–65), Philadelphia 76ers (1965–8), and Los Angeles Lakers (1968–73).

A seven-foot center, Chamberlain led the NBA in scoring seven times and rebounding eleven times, and he was named the NBA's Most Valuable Player four times (1960, 1966–8). He scored a record 100 points in a game against the New York Knicks in 1962, and in 1960 pulled a record 55 rebounds in a game against his chief rival, Bill Russell, of the Boston Celtics.

In 1978 Chamberlain was elected to basketball's Hall of Fame, and is generally conceded to be one of the greatest basketball players of all time. In later years he devoted himself to promoting volleyball, in which he also excelled.A lifelong bachelor, Chamberlain's promiscuity is well documented in his autobiography A View from Above.
